IOS 16 Wallpapers of Historic Skyscrapers
By Chris Hytha
15 High-quality Background Images of Historic Highrises
The tall vertical format of the Highrises Collection makes the images perfect for phone wallpapers. The idea of formatting the project for a small lock screen started when a member of MKBHD’s team reached out with an opportunity. They were shooting a video about the new IOS 16 release and were looking for art to demonstrate the 3d effect. I was happy to provide some images from the project, and they looked incredible with the IOS 16 updates.
The wallpaper set I created features 15 historic skyscrapers across 15 different cities. It is fascinating to see the variety of highrise architecture across the country. Many of these buildings are defining parts of the cities they inhabit. The architectural style of Art Deco is common among structures built in the early 20th century, which contrasts strongly with the Futurism seen in the Space Needle and TransAmerica Pyramid.
The price of this high-resolution (2772 x 6000px) wallpaper set is $10 for the digital download. The Highrises Collection is an ongoing project, and proceeds from these sales will be reinvested into travel to continue documenting beautiful buildings!
Each one of these buildings is fascinating in its own regard, let me tell you about a few of them…
Bullocks Wilshire Building
Los Angeles, CA
The copper details of this Los Angeles highrise are spectacular. One theme of Art Deco design that I love most is the application of intricate details hundreds of feet up. The Bullocks Wilshire Building has become an Icon of Wilshire Blvd.
Philadelphia City Hall
Philadelphia, PA
Over my seven years of living in Philadelphia, this building has become one of my favorites in existence. It still holds the title of largest masonry building in the world after its 120+ years since construction.
TransAmerica Pyramid
San Francisco, CA
When visiting San Francisco it is hard to miss this triangularly shaped building. Due to its irregular form, the TransAmerica Pyramid has become an icon of the bay area. The architectural style of the structure is often referred to as “Futurism.”
Baltimore Trust Building
Baltimore, MD
The Baltimore Trust Building is the embodiment of the gilded era in Architecture. Stone sculptures of lions and eagles protect the building’s ornate facade. Its sharply pitched roof is gilded and laced with intricate details despite being over 500’ up.
